In this blog post, I’m going to share the habits that have had the greatest impact on my life but before I do that, I’d like to share a quote from William Shakespeare:
"All that glitters is not gold."
This quote means you can’t judge something solely based on its appearance; you need to look beyond the surface and I want you to internalize this quote because, frankly, the habits I’m about to share aren’t glamorous!
However, they’ve had a profound impact on my life.
When it comes to success, one thing all successful people have in common is the ability to delay gratification. In other words, they forgo pleasure today in anticipation of a greater reward tomorrow.
So if you’re someone who can delay gratification, I’m confident that these 5 habits will have a tremendous impact on your life.
Let’s dive into the first habit.
Habit #1 Start Making Your Bed Everyday
Before you start rolling your eyes at me, just hear me out because making your bed is seriously one of the best habits you can add to your life.
Why? The domino effect.
When you make your bed first thing in the morning, you’ve hit the first domino. It’s the first domino because it's It’s the initial task you tackle right after waking up.
In other words:
Making your bed starts your day with a win.
You’ve achieved something before you’ve even brushed your teeth, which is a huge boost for morale.
Another benefit of making your bed first thing is its simplicity.
If you’re able-bodied, you can do this. If you have a busy work schedule, you can still do this. Realistically, how long does it take to make your bed?
One to two minutes, max. If that!
You could probably get it done in about 30 seconds.
It’s that easy!
So, start making your bed every morning—you really have nothing to lose.
Now, let’s talk about the second habit…
Habit #2 Get Your Nutrition Dialed In
As an adult, you must take full responsibility for your health. So, don’t come to me with excuses like, “I don’t like water.”
That’s what kids say, not adults.
A great way to think about your body is to compare it to a car:
Meaning the fuel you put in determines the performance you get out. Fill your body with high-octane, nutrient-dense foods, and you’ll feel great, with energy levels through the roof.
On the other hand, feed it junk food, and you’ll feel tired and sluggish.
If you’re anything like me and want a life of constant achievement, you need energy and that energy comes from high-nutrient-dense foods alongside good quality sleep.
YOU are what you eat and drink!
Habit #3 Do Full Body Workouts 3x Weekly
Sometimes the best way to explain something is to tell you what it's not, so let's do that.
True physical fitness is NOT going on a bodybuilding stage, throwing poses, and getting judges to rate your muscular development.
That is a male beauty pageant.
True physical fitness is being able to run and jump on command; it's being able to climb; it's being able to push, pull, and carry; it's being able to punch and kick; it's the ability to react.
True physical fitness is when you are so connected to your body that it allows you to do whatever you want it to do.
And to be truly physically fit, you do not need to live in a gym.
3 full-body workouts a week is more than enough. However, what you do need to do daily is walk.
Get your 10,000 steps because the human body is designed to move.
We are not designed to sit on our asses for hours on end.
Habit #4 Start Reading 30 Minutes per Day
So what do Warren Buffett, Bill Gates, and Elon Musk all have in common, apart from being mega-rich?
They all read books!
There’s a saying:
“Readers are leaders.”
And this is very, very true.
When it comes to learning, the best way is to fuck up and make mistakes—as long as those mistakes don’t hold you back moving forward.
The next best way to learn is from other people, and this is where books come in.
Reading is the closest thing you’ll get to having a conversation with someone you admire and respect.
For example, let’s say you want to become an entrepreneur and would love to pick Jeff Bezos’s brain. In the real world, what are the chances of that happening?
Probably close to zero.
But you can pick up his biography and get a lifetime of his wisdom and experience compressed into a book.
The bottom line is this:
Start reading for 30 minutes every day. It’s not a lot of time.
Habit #5 Spend at Least 2 Hours a Week in Nature
More so than ever, are walks in nature so valuable
Why?
Technology and urbanization.
A recent study—I read, so take it with a grain of salt—projects that by 2050, 70% of the global population will live in urban environments.
Urban settings, as many of us know, are often linked to mental health challenges, from anxiety to burnout.
The closer we are to nature, the better we feel—physically, mentally, and emotionally.
And research backs this up.
Its shows that spending time in green spaces can reduce stress, improve focus, and boost mood.
So, next time you're feeling overwhelmed, try a walk in the park or a hike in the woods.
Your mind and body might just give you a pat on the back.
